[People News] Wang Renhua, a full general in the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and Secretary of the Central Military Commission’s (CMC) Political and Legal Affairs Commission, was notably absent from a key political-legal meeting. Reports suggest he may be under investigation. Wang previously served under both Zhang Youxia in the Equipment Department and Miao Hua in the Navy. During Miao Hua’s tenure as Director of the CMC Political Work Department, Wang was rapidly promoted, even exceptionally elevated to the rank of full general. It’s highly likely that Wang has been implicated in the Miao Hua case.
PLA Legal Chief Missing from Political-Legal Commission Meeting
On May 8, 2025, the CCP opened a high-level seminar for political-legal leadership. State media CCTV showed 11 officials seated on the rostrum, including Politburo member and Central Secretariat Secretary Chen Wenqing, Deputy Secretary Wang Xiaohong (also State Councilor and Public Security Minister), Supreme Court President Zhang Jun, Procurator-General Ying Yong, Minister of State Security Chen Yixin, Justice Minister He Rong, and Secretary-General Yin Bai — seven members of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission.
Notably absent were Wang Renhua, the PLA’s Political-Legal Commission Secretary, and Wang Chunning, Commander of the People’s Armed Police. The CCP's Political-Legal Commission has nine members in total.
In contrast, back in April 2018, all commission members, including the military representative and armed police commander, attended the same type of meeting at the Central Party School.
Rumors: Wang Renhua Under Investigation
Since late 2024, General Wang Chunning has repeatedly missed important meetings. On December 2, 2024, former Chinese journalist Zhao Lanjian posted on X that “Wang Chunning, Commander of the Armed Police, has been arrested,” citing credible sources.
At the CCP Central Political-Legal Work Conference held January 12–13, 2025, Wang Chunning was again absent. At that time, Wang Renhua was still seated on the presidium with other commission members.

The situation escalated when, on May 7, 2025, a day before the seminar, anti-CCP activist Edwin H. Chiang (Yin Ke) revealed via X (@EdwinHChiang) that both Wang Renhua and Armed Police Political Commissar Zhang Hongbing were under investigation.
Chiang had previously accurately leaked major personnel shifts such as the swap between Politburo members Shi Taifeng and Li Ganjie, and the investigation of Jin Xiangjun, Governor of Shanxi Province.
Wang's Rise Under Miao Hua
Wang Renhua was born in July 1961 in Santai County, Sichuan, and enlisted in the military in December 1979. He served as director of the Security Department in the General Armaments Department’s Political Department.
In 2012, Wang became Political Department Director at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. He was promoted to major general in 2013. In January 2015, he was appointed Political Department Director of the Army Equipment Research and Procurement Department under the General Armaments Department, before transferring in January 2016 to become Deputy Director of the Army Political Work Department. During this period, Zhang Youxia (2012–2017) was head of the General Armaments Department and later CMC Equipment Development Department.
In January 2017, Wang was transferred to serve as Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission for the Navy’s East Sea Fleet, when Miao Hua was Navy Political Commissar.
From August 2017 to November 2024, Miao Hua served as Director of the Central Military Commission (CMC) Political Work Department, overseeing the political vetting and selection of senior military officers across the PLA. During this period, Wang Renhua was promoted to Deputy Secretary of the CMC Political and Legal Affairs Commission in 2018, and in December 2019, he became Secretary of the Commission and was promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral.
On March 28, 2024, Wang Renhua was further promoted to the rank of full Admiral in the Navy. This was unusual, as his two predecessors as Secretary of the CMC Political and Legal Affairs Commission, Li Xiaofeng and Song Dan, both held only the rank of Lieutenant General and were never promoted to full General. Wang’s promotion broke this precedent.
Conclusion
On November 28, 2024, Ministry of National Defence spokesperson Wu Qian announced that Miao Hua was “under investigation for serious disciplinary violations” and had been suspended. On April 30, 2025, Miao was stripped of his position as a National People’s Congress deputy.
On April 24, 2025, former journalist Zhao Lanjian revealed that the CCP had internally circulated a two-page report detailing the case against Miao Hua and CMC Vice Chairman He Weidong, describing it as a “shocking political faction case.” The tone of the internal document was extremely severe, with Miao Hua occupying a page and a half.
Shortly afterward, Wang Renhua, heavily promoted by Miao, disappeared from public view and reportedly came under investigation. His downfall appears directly linked to the broader purge surrounding Miao Hua. As the CCP approaches its Fourth Plenary Session, more revelations about the Miao-He faction are expected, and the military purge may further intensify.
