[People News] North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un and Russian President Vladimir Putin attended a military parade in Beijing on September 3, after which they proceeded to the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse for approximately two and a half hours of discussions. Prior to the meeting, the accompanying staff from both sides engaged in a tug-of-war over differing opinions regarding the air conditioning temperature in the conference room. Following the conclusion of the talks, North Korean staff carefully wiped down all items that Kim Jong-un had touched. Reuters cited analyses suggesting that this action was part of the security measures taken to prevent foreign espionage.

As reported by South Korea's Yonhap News Agency, Russian media reporter Kommersant (transliteration) noted that Kim and Putin had initially planned to hold their discussions at the Russian Embassy in China, but the venue was unexpectedly changed to the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, leaving the on-site personnel unprepared.

Once the meeting venue was arranged, a 'battle over the air conditioning' ensued between the Russian and North Korean staff.

At that moment, the North Korean team sought to raise the indoor temperature to 23 degrees Celsius, while the Russian team insisted on keeping it at 20 degrees. The personnel from both sides engaged in a tug-of-war and argument in front of the temperature controller, ultimately leading to the North Korean team retreating first, while the Russian team continued to adjust the temperature at the controller.

Reports indicated that although the North Korean personnel could understand the opinions expressed by the Russian side in Russian, they remained firm in their requests for adjustments. A Kommersant reporter described that during the 'tug-of-war stalemate' at the air conditioning controller, the North Korean personnel may have experienced a certain level of inconvenience or pressure.

Following the conclusion of the event, Kim Jong-un and Putin arrived at the meeting venue in Putin's official vehicle, marking the official start of their discussions.

Additionally, a video shared by Kremlin reporter Alexander Yun on the Telegram platform reveals that after their over two-hour conversation, two North Korean staff members meticulously cleaned the chairs at the venue. They not only wiped down the backs and armrests of the chairs and cleaned the coffee table next to Kim Jong-un's seat, but also removed his drinking cup.

The Nikkei News reported, citing Japanese and South Korean intelligence agencies, that, similar to his previous trips, Kim Jong-un brought his own toilet on the iconic green train to Beijing to keep his health information private.

Michael Madden, a North Korea leadership expert at the Stimson Centre, noted that such precautions have been standard practice since the time of Kim Jong-un's father, Kim Jong-il.

Experts explain: "The specially designed toilet and dedicated garbage bags containing waste, cigarette butts, and other debris are intended to prevent foreign intelligence agencies (even from allied nations) from obtaining samples for analysis, as these could disclose Kim Jong-un's health status, including biological information such as hair and skin tags."

During the Hanoi summit with U.S. President Trump in 2019, Kim Jong-un's security personnel were seen blocking off his hotel floor and conducting extensive cleaning for several hours, even removing items like mattresses. △
