Texas ICE Office Shooting Leaves 2 Dead; FBI: “Ideological Motive” Behind It

FBI Director Kash Patel posted on X a photo of a shell casing found at the scene, bearing the words “ANTI-ICE.”

[People News] The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said that on Wednesday (Sept. 24), a gunman opened fire at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Texas, killing at least two detainees before taking his own life.

According to Voice of America, DHS stated Wednesday: “This morning, a sniper fired from a nearby rooftop at the Dallas field office of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The gunman indiscriminately fired at the ICE building, including at a van parked in the waiting area, where the victims inside were shot.”

The statement continued: “Three detainees were shot in total, two fatally, while another remains in critical condition. The gunman was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

FBI Director Kash Patel posted on X a photo of a shell casing recovered at the scene, inscribed with “ANTI-ICE.” Patel wrote: “The investigation is ongoing, but preliminary review of the evidence indicates that this attack was ideologically motivated.”

Responding to the shooting, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz told reporters at the scene that “politically motivated violence” is wrong and “must stop.” He referenced the recent assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk. Authorities said the shooter in that case held “left-wing ideological” beliefs.

The FBI said no law enforcement officers were injured in Wednesday’s attack. The incident comes as ICE has been ramping up deportations of undocumented immigrants.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said in the DHS statement: “For months, we have been warning politicians and the media to tone down rhetoric against ICE enforcement actions before lives are lost. This shooting must serve as a wake-up call to the far left—their rhetoric targeting ICE has consequences.”

In light of the recent killing of Kirk, politicians from both parties have said that political violence has no place in America.△
