The U.S. Will Counter the CCP’s Transnational Repression

The CCP’s rogue tactics of transnational repression are escalating.

[People News] Mark Walker, nominee for U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom, told The Dajiyuan on October 8 that the United States will counter the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) transnational repression targeting Falun Gong practitioners and Shen Yun Performing Arts.

Since 2024, the CCP has escalated its transnational suppression of Falun Gong, repeatedly sending email threats—including bomb and shooting threats—by impersonating Falun Gong practitioners, Shen Yun performers, and The Dajiyuan staff to various U.S. federal government agencies such as the White House and the Department of Justice.

Regarding these incidents, Walker told The Dajiyuan, “This is very serious. I believe President Trump, Attorney General Pamela Bondi, and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem will deal with these issues fearlessly. The CCP’s behaviour is utterly reckless, even taking place on our own soil. You will see a strong reaction (from the U.S. government) to these actions by the CCP.”

“We have a strong government that will condemn and counter these atrocities by the CCP.”

On February 20, 2025, Shen Yun Performing Arts’ premiere at the Kennedy Centre faced a bomb threat. The threat email claimed that a bomb had been planted in the theatre and would be detonated if the performance were allowed to proceed. The theatre was temporarily evacuated, and U.S. Park Police conducted an investigation. That afternoon, the threat was lifted, and the performance went on as scheduled.

Regarding this incident, Walker said, “The matter is still under investigation. But whenever the CCP violates (human rights and freedoms), especially in areas I focus on—such as religious freedom—whether it’s what they do to the Uyghurs or other groups, it’s our duty to continue exposing these violations of rights, no matter whether they happen here or in their (China’s) own country.”

Founded in New York in 2006, Shen Yun Performing Arts is dedicated to reviving traditional Chinese culture and “presenting China before communism.” Each year, Shen Yun tours globally, bringing performances of purity, goodness, and beauty to millions of audience members—something that terrifies the CCP. Over the years, the regime has repeatedly attempted to sabotage or harass Shen Yun performances.

In March this year, NTD Television reporter Iris Tao asked during a White House press briefing what the Trump administration’s response was to the Kennedy Centre bomb threat targeting Shen Yun, and how the President—who emphasises art and culture—plans to respond to foreign government actors attempting to undermine art and culture in the United States.

In response, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt issued a clear warning to foreign government actors, stating that they would be held accountable.

“Don’t engage in sabotage,” Leavitt said. “This administration takes this matter very seriously and will hold those responsible to account.”

The threat against the Kennedy Centre was not an isolated incident. Earlier, prominent legal scholar and former Peking University law professor Yuan Hongbing told The Dajiyuan that in 2022, Xi Jinping ordered an escalation of the CCP’s transnational persecution of Falun Gong, primarily through “public opinion warfare” and “lawfare.”

A large number of examples show that the CCP’s dark hand has reached deeply into the United States, conducting persecution against Falun Gong on U.S. soil through lawsuits, legal battles, harassment, and even bribery of government officials.

On November 19, 2024, 71-year-old pro-CCP “community leader” Chen Jun of California was sentenced to 20 months in prison by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York for acting as an unregistered agent of the Chinese government and bribing a U.S. official. Chen pleaded guilty on July 24, 2024. He had been involved in assisting the CCP’s transnational interference with Shen Yun.

On December 19, 2024, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested 64-year-old Yaoning “Mike” Sun, who was accused of conspiring with John Chen to target U.S.-based Falun Gong practitioners and attempting to influence and infiltrate locally elected U.S. officials.

Walker stated that the CCP’s acts of transnational repression violate U.S. national security and sovereignty. Walker served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 2015 to 2021 and was a senior member of the House Homeland Security Committee’s Intelligence and Counterterrorism Subcommittee. In April 2025, President Trump announced his nomination of Walker to serve as U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom.

Walker said, “For years, the CCP has been stealing and infringing upon our technological intellectual property. They launch thousands of cyberattacks against us every day, and our strong government will respond to the CCP.”

“I support the President’s tough stance on the CCP.” △
