[People News] According to reports from the official media of the Chinese Communist Party, the seventh member representative conference of the China Guangcai Cause Promotion Association took place in Beijing on November 26. Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, met with all attending representatives. Liu Guozhong, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, along with Li Ganjie, a member of the Political Bureau and Minister of the United Front Work Department, also attended the meeting, with Li Ganjie delivering a speech at the opening ceremony.

The China Guangcai Cause Promotion Association is a so-called civil organisation established by the CPC for united front work, primarily involving private economic individuals, including businesspeople from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and overseas Chinese. Its representative conference is held once every five years. While the reports indicated that the event followed standard procedures, there was an unusual occurrence: Wang Huning did not deliver a speech as is customary, but only participated in a group photo with the attendees. In previous conferences, the Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference typically addressed the representatives during such meetings.

For example, at the sixth representative conference, which was postponed to January 2021 due to the pandemic, then Chairman Wang Yang, accompanied by then Vice Premier Hu Chunhua and You Quan, the Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department, not only met with all representatives for a group photo but also delivered a speech.

In October 2015, during the fifth representative conference, then Chairman Yu Zhengsheng, accompanied by Vice Premier Ma Kai and Minister of the United Front Work Department Sun Chunlan, also met with all representatives for a group photo and delivered a speech.

In August 2010, during the fourth conference, and again in 2005 at the third conference, Jia Qinglin, who was then the Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), also met with representatives, delivered speeches, and took photographs.

This suggests that when engaging with these United Front targets, the Chairman of the CPPCC is expected not only to meet them but also to purposefully provide 'guidance' to emphasise the importance the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) places on these interactions. So, why did Wang Huning deviate from this practice?

The author speculates that Wang Huning is likely unwell. Official reports indicate that he conducted research in Shenzhen and Huizhou, Guangdong, from November 21 to 23, during which he delivered a speech that was notably unremarkable. Recently, Guangdong has been experiencing a peak in H3N2 influenza cases, with official data showing that during the 46th week of 2025 (November 10-16), the province's influenza positive detection rate reached 36.69%, and the proportion of outpatient and emergency visits increased to 7.47%, with 20 outbreaks reported in just one week. Many in the public suspect that the so-called influenza A is actually a variant of COVID-19 that has never fully disappeared.

While it is unlikely that Wang Huning and his team are unprepared, it is certainly possible for an unseen virus to catch him off guard. According to reports from infected individuals, they typically experience high fever, fatigue, and nausea in the days leading up to their diagnosis, and usually recover within about a week. Could Wang Huning be experiencing similar symptoms?

In contrast to previous reports from Xinhua News, this time there is no close-up of Wang Huning; only a group photo with the representatives is available, where he does not stand out, and his expression is not clearly visible. In earlier news about previous CPPCC chairmen, there were always close-ups of them shaking hands with representatives.

In comparing several previous CCTV videos, it is notable that this time there are no close-up shots of Wang Huning. Additionally, in the brief footage where he shakes hands with the representatives, he appears to walk unsteadily and somewhat reluctantly, which indicates a sign of physical weakness.

This situation explains why Wang Huning did not deliver a speech, as he is evidently lacking in energy. Meeting with representatives is a scheduled event, and his absence would likely raise suspicions from the public. Thus, he could only force himself to attend, but speaking would expose his condition, leading to the cancellation of his speech. He likely hoped that this minor irregularity would not draw attention from the outside world.

As the creator of contradictory theories for three generations of party leaders, Wang Huning has been entrenched in the political scene for many years and has committed numerous wrongdoings. If he is indeed infected by a virus, could this be seen as a form of retribution?
