(The Center Square) – President-Elect Donald Trump named Brendan Carr as Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission.

Carr is currently the top Republican on the commission and has publicly vowed to root out the federal spending on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

DEI spending has become increasingly controversial and raises questions about bias against conservatives at the FCC which regulates television and other communications.

“The FCC’s most recent budget request said that promoting DEI was the agency’s second highest strategic goal,” Carr said in a statement. “Starting next year, the FCC will end its promotion of DEI.”

Carr said he was “honored and humbled” to receive Trump’s approval and that America needs to end the “censorship cartel.”

“Broadcast media have had the privilege of using a scarce and valuable public resource—our airwaves. In turn, they are required by law to operate in the public interest,” Carr said. “When the transition is complete, the FCC will enforce this public interest obligation.”

Trump pointed out that the Senate has unanimously confirmed Carr three times already.

“Commissioner Carr is a warrior for Free Speech, and has fought against the regulatory Lawfare that has stifled Americans' Freedoms, and held back our Economy,” Trump said in a statement. “He will end the regulatory onslaught that has been crippling America's Job Creators and Innovators, and ensure that the FC delivers for rural America.

Commissioner Carr has served at the FCC since 2012, including as an Advisor to then FCC Chairman, Ajit Pai.

The pick is the latest for Trump, who has unveiled a slew of names to fill out his cabinet, pending Senate confirmation.
