[People News] Former U.S. State Department Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom Sam Brownback told The Dajiyuan on Sept. 10 that the CCP hackers impersonating The Dajiyuan to send bomb threat emails to the White House is an act of transnational terrorism, and the United States must prosecute and hold those involved accountable.

According to an interview report by The Dajiyuan reporter Li Chen, on Sept. 6 The Dajiyuan’ overseas submission mailbox received an intimidating email with the subject: “Look at the screenshots, you’re finished.” The email included three screenshots.

The first screenshot shows the perpetrator impersonating The Dajiyuan’ tip-off phone number (201-614-3989) and mainland submission email ([email protected]) to send threatening text to the White House. The threatening text was written in English; the Chinese translation is as follows:

“We are Falun Gong members, we will soon shoot the White House, we will throw petrol bombs and explosives. If anyone stops us, we will open fire. We will also simultaneously livestream this feat on YouTube, X, Gan jing World, The Dajiyuan, New Tang Dynasty Television and Sound of Hope! This is the consequence of your failure to help resolve the Communist Party’s transnational persecution!”

Regarding the above email, former Ambassador Brownback told The Dajiyuan, “This is one of the CCP’s ongoing coordinated actions of transnational repression, or transnational terrorism.”

“I think this should be recorded on file and included in our actions against transnational repression.”

“(This IP address comes from China) — this needs to be logged and reported to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).”

It is reported that this is not the first time The Dajiyuan has received similar false threat messages. Since May 2024, The Dajiyuan has received at least 47 such intimidation letters, including ones impersonating the founder of Falun Gong, Falun Gong practitioners, or related groups, attempting to link Falun Gong with terrorism.

The Dajiyuan was founded in August 2000 in the United States by Falun Gong practitioners, dedicated to reporting truths censored and blocked by the CCP, providing readers with information not controlled by totalitarian power.

In June 2025, noted legal scholar and former Peking University law professor Yuan Hongbing said at a forum on Capitol Hill titled “The CCP’s Escalating Transnational Repression in the United States” that “at an expanded meeting of the CCP Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission held before the CCP’s 20th National Congress in 2022, Xi Jinping proposed a grand strategy to carry out a new round of suppression and persecution of Falun Gong’s overseas development. According to reports from conscientious people within the CCP system, Xi Jinping’s strategy can be summarized as ‘one center, two fundamentals.’”

“‘One center’ is to target the founder of Falun Gong for character assassination and moral destruction… in Xi Jinping’s words, it is ‘to carry out a spiritual decapitation operation against Falun Gong, in order to destroy the cornerstone of Falun Gong’s existence.’”

“‘The two fundamentals’ are to launch a ‘public opinion war’ and a ‘legal war’ against Falun Gong,” he said.

Regarding The Dajiyuan’ identity being impersonated to send a bomb threat to the White House, Brownback further stated that the United States needs to stop and fight back against the CCP’s transnational repression.

He said, “We must fight back against such actions.”

“Transnational repression itself is illegal, it must be reported, and investigated by the FBI.”

In recent years, the U.S. Department of Justice and its Federal Bureau of Investigation have thwarted several CCP plots of transnational repression against Falun Gong. For example:

Chinese-Americans John Chen (Chen Jun) and Lin Feng in California were arrested by the FBI in 2023; the two were acting under orders from the CCP to participate abroad in a movement to “overthrow Falun Gong.”

The indictment alleges that from January to May 2023, John Chen and his bodyguard Lin Feng, acting under instructions from the Chinese government, operated in the United States to further push forward plans to suppress and harass Falun Gong practitioners. They participated in manipulating an IRS reporting scheme in an attempt to revoke the tax-exempt status of the Shen Yun Performing Arts group run by Falun Gong practitioners.

In November 2024, John Chen was sentenced by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York to 20 months in prison and three years of supervised release; in September 2024, Lin Feng was sentenced to 1 year and 4 months in prison.

Brownback said those who participate in the CCP’s transnational repression must face legal sanctions.

He said, “They (the CCP) must stop this behavior.”

“We must point out that this is wrong, and individuals involved must be prosecuted and held legally accountable.” △
