[People News] On January 16, multiple platform accounts of well-known mainland Chinese host Li Xiang were barred from being followed, including Douyin, Weibo, and Xiaohongshu. At the same time, it was revealed that 14 companies under her name have been deregistered, with only six remaining in operation. Once the news broke, it immediately sparked heated discussion online.
Li Xiang is regarded as a pioneer of live-stream e-commerce in China. It was once reported that her one-minute advertising fee reached as high as 300,000 yuan. She has considerable social media influence, with 24.562 million followers on Weibo, 4.21 million followers on Douyin, and 487,000 followers on Xiaohongshu. At present, all of her social media accounts are labeled as being under “restrictive measures” rather than “account bans.” Existing users can still view her historical content, but new users can no longer click to follow her. Industry insiders analyzed that such synchronized action across multiple platforms is uncommon and may suggest the involvement of regulatory authorities behind the scenes. In addition, her daughter Wang Shiling (Angela), whom she had with her ex-husband Wang Yuelun, has not been affected; her personal account remains normal.

Regarding the reasons for Li Xiang’s accounts being restricted, three speculations have emerged externally:
First, she has long flaunted wealth on social media, often taking her daughter Wang Shiling to fashion and high-society events, which may have crossed the regulatory red line of the 2025 “Clean and Clear Campaign” targeting ostentatious displays of wealth and money worship and other unhealthy values.
Second, the issue may involve tax compliance. She previously had many companies under her name, but 14 have now been deregistered, raising public doubts about her tax compliance.
Third, there are rumors that the case is related to a privacy infringement incident, but this has not yet been officially confirmed.
Li Xiang’s luxurious lifestyle has long been no secret. On social media, she has shown breakfasts that include propolis-filled buns costing thousands of yuan each, imported blueberries paired with customized beef burgers—one breakfast costing as much as several months’ wages for an ordinary person. Her designer outfits, oversized diamond rings, and closets filled with Hermès handbags are all extremely expensive items.
She once stated bluntly in an interview that “the family’s monthly food expenses alone amount to 650,000 yuan.” Her daughter Wang Shiling’s clothing items often cost tens of thousands of yuan each, from children’s wear to accessories, all selected from high-end brands.
In addition, she has lived in the United Kingdom for many years. The luxury home she purchased in London has also been exposed by netizens, and she frequently shares scenes of high-end overseas living.
Li Xiang hosted many well-known programs on Hunan TV for many years, including Super Girl and Happy Camp. She has also appeared in television dramas such as Fast-Talking Li Cuilian and The Four Great Constables Assemble in the Capital. At present, her last public update was a short video posted on Douyin on December 31, 2025, showing her daughter Wang Shiling appearing together with artist Zhang Yixing on New Year’s Eve.
The restriction on following Li Xiang’s multiple social media platforms has attracted widespread attention from netizens. According to mainland media outlet Jimunews, which contacted customer service of various platforms, Xiaohongshu stated that it would record the situation and verify it for handling; Douyin customer service said it was unable to check the specific reason why another person’s account was barred from being followed; Weibo displayed a notice stating, “This user has been barred from being followed for violating laws and regulations or the Weibo Community Convention.”
It is worth noting that a well-known mainland male star, Yu Menglong, died mysteriously after falling in Beijing last September. His management company, Tianyu Media, was boycotted, and Tianyu Media is a subsidiary of Mango Excellent Media under Hunan TV. After the Yu Menglong incident, Mango Excellent Media experienced a sharp drop in its stock price and a decline in the number of shareholders. There were rumors that Li Xiang invested 700 million yuan to support Mango Excellent Media’s stock price, drawing continued public attention to the behind-the-scenes interest chains, and Li Xiang was thus drawn into controversy.
