Shen Yun’s performing arts show on various countries.
[People News] Recently, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) threatened that something would happen to the Danish Prime Minister—similar to how, not long ago, a CCP diplomat declared that the Japanese Prime Minister should be beheaded. Once the news broke, it again shocked the world. Such blatant threats against the personal safety of foreign heads of state are rarely seen in history. Against the backdrop of multiple assassination attempts in the past two years targeting leaders in Japan and the United States, why does the CCP dare to repeatedly act this way? Do such personal terror threats against foreign heads of state and officials constitute illegal behavior? What responsibility should the CCP bear? Today, we will analyze these issues.
The CCP Threatens the Danish Prime Minister
The incident began with the CCP’s fear of a global Chinese New Year gala tour. Yes, the event is Shen Yun’s performing arts show—a performance showcasing the authentic 5,000-year traditional Chinese culture. Shen Yun Performing Arts is scheduled to perform from March 30 to April 2 at Copenhagen’s Royal Arena, presenting five top-tier performances. However, the CCP has attempted to sabotage the show, spreading hate speech and smears in an effort to carry out transnational repression. On January 8, the Chinese Embassy in Denmark posted statements in both Chinese and English on its website, attempting to discourage overseas Chinese and Danish citizens from attending.
On February 10, Shen Yun’s Danish presenter received an anonymous threatening letter titled: “If You Insist on Holding Shen Yun Performances, the Danish Prime Minister Will Have an Accident.” The letter used the safety of the prime minister and senior government officials as leverage to intimidate the organizers into canceling the performances.
It is clear that this suspected CCP threat implied harm to the prime minister, though it did not specify what means would be used or how severe the consequences would be. Presumably, the sender did not dare to elaborate.
A CCP Diplomat Threatened to Behead the Japanese Prime Minister
This recalls an incident in early November last year, when Xue Jian, the CCP Consul General in Osaka, threatened to “behead Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.” The trigger was Takaichi’s remark in parliament: “If Taiwan has an emergency, it could constitute a ‘survival-threatening situation’ for Japan, and under the constitution, Japan could exercise force to defend the nation.”
Late the following night, Xue posted in Japanese on X (formerly Twitter) that “such a dirty head should be cut off without hesitation.” The statement sparked strong protests from the Japanese government, which demanded deletion and an explanation from Beijing. However, China’s Foreign Ministry and Ministry of National Defense expressed strong dissatisfaction with Takaichi’s remarks, signaling support for Xue Jian.
Still not satisfied, Xue posted again on the 9th: “‘Taiwan’s emergency is Japan’s emergency’ is the road to S (death) chosen by some foolish Japanese politicians…”
It is certain that without CCP backing, Xue would not have dared to threaten to behead a Japanese prime minister or call Japanese politicians “foolish” while implying they were choosing a road to death. No disciplinary action against Xue was ever reported.
Now, the Danish prime minister has been threatened. Perhaps the CCP believes that the international community is powerless against its intimidation tactics—as long as it stops short of action and merely stirs chaos with words.
Assassination Attempts Against World Leaders in Recent Years
In recent years, assassination attempts against leaders of democratic countries have indeed occurred. Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was shot and killed in July 2022 while delivering a campaign speech near Yamato-Saidaiji Station. U.S. President Donald Trump has faced multiple assassination attempts during campaign events and speeches, though he survived.
Most recently, on February 22 this year, the U.S. Secret Service announced that at approximately 1:30 a.m., a man in his twenties armed with a shotgun illegally entered Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida and was shot dead.
According to the Secret Service, the suspect was discovered near the north gate of Mar-a-Lago carrying what appeared to be a shotgun and a gasoline can. During the confrontation, he was shot by agents and a deputy from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw identified the man as 21-year-old Austin Tucker Martin from Cameron, North Carolina. At the time, two Secret Service agents and one deputy confronted him and ordered him to drop his items.
“He dropped the gasoline can but raised the shotgun in a shooting stance,” Bradshaw said. The agents and deputy “fired to eliminate the threat.” The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
The CCP’s Threats Constitute Illegal Behavior
Under Article 293 of China’s Criminal Law regarding the crime of “picking quarrels and provoking trouble,” insulting or threatening others under serious circumstances can result in up to five years in prison. Repeated offenses disrupting social order can carry five to ten years and fines.
The CCP not only repeatedly organizes threats but now threatens a foreign prime minister and demands that Denmark refuse performance venues and that citizens not attend the show. This constitutes not just intimidation but coercion—forcing others to withhold services. Under China’s own laws, such conduct is punishable whether as a primary offense or as part of another crime.
Why Does the CCP Dare to Repeatedly Threaten?
Why does the CCP dare to violate laws internationally? Because the CCP itself is a rogue regime that breaks its own laws. From intellectual property theft to violating international trade rules and commitments related to Russia-Ukraine and Hong Kong-Taiwan, and to systematic domestic human rights abuses, it consistently disregards its own legal framework.
For example, while requiring political parties to register with the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the CCP itself has not registered. Its constitution guarantees freedoms of speech, assembly, association, and publication, yet citizens who practice qigong, engage in traditional religious activities, criticize government abuses, or post disaster images online can face imprisonment.
In reality, these crude intimidation tactics reveal the CCP’s weakness. What can it do? A civilian performing arts group presents pure and beautiful traditional culture loved by audiences worldwide. Chinese law does not prohibit qigong or label Falun Gong as illegal, yet the CCP has persecuted it for 26 years. The truth is increasingly known. The CCP has climbed too high on a crumbling wall—unable to climb down or climb higher. How long can it rely on intimidation? It cannot. It only exposes its own evil and incompetence.
Strong Condemnation from Danish Politicians
Several members of Denmark’s parliament strongly condemned the threat.
On February 17, Katrine Daugaard, Spokesperson for Culture and Social Affairs of the Liberal Alliance Party, stated that Denmark values freedom and that the CCP’s statement has no market. “In Denmark we have absolute artistic freedom, and people can freely watch the art they wish to see.”
Mikkel Bjørn, Chairman of the Citizenship Committee, condemned CCP attempts to influence Danes, saying: “I absolutely will not listen to the CCP dictatorship regarding what citizens may or may not participate in.”
Kim Valentin, Chairman of the Business Committee, stated: “In Denmark, the state does not interfere in what people choose to participate in. I have just realized that in China, people do not have such freedom.” He added: “It is completely unacceptable for the Chinese (CCP) embassy to try to influence Danes. I sincerely hope this encourages more people to see Shen Yun.”
On February 20, Carl Andersen, Spokesperson for Church Affairs of the Liberal Alliance Party, wrote to NTD Television that the CCP embassy’s statement “clearly represents a foreign power attempting to interfere in Denmark’s freedoms of assembly, speech, and religion.”
