The grandma's confrontation with the special police has been turned into a black-and-white line drawing by netizens, captioned 'World Famous Painting.' (Internet image)
[People News] Recently, a video has gone viral online, set at the entrance of the government building in Xinyi City, Maoming, Guangdong. The footage shows a dense line of riot police holding transparent shields, forming a cold barrier. However, what is most striking on the opposite side of this wall is not a passionate young man, but an elderly woman with white hair.
Dressed in a pink top and carrying a small bag, this elderly woman boldly charges into the open space where both sides are facing off. She bends down to pick up stones from the ground and forcefully throws them at the police shields. The shields resonate with loud 'bangs' as they are hit, and after a round of throwing, the grandma quickly retreats back into the crowd, adjusts herself, and charges forward again, her movements so agile that netizens humorously dubbed it a 'quick strike and quick retreat' guerrilla tactic.
This scene was transformed into a black-and-white line drawing by a talented netizen known as 'Yokohama Daya,' accompanied by the phrase 'World Famous Painting,' creating a satirical effect. Many viewers remarked that seeing this elderly woman standing alone against the wall of shields is even more poignant than the iconic 'Tank Man' from years past.
People might wonder what kind of grievance could compel a white-haired elderly woman to risk arrest and punishment to confront the police with such determination.
In simple terms, this situation can be summed up as 'the wrath of heaven and the resentment of the people.' The incident reportedly began when the government planned to build a funeral home in Shuikou Town, Xinyi City. Initially, how did the government communicate this to the public? They misled everyone by claiming that they were constructing a road named 'Liru Avenue' for land acquisition. Consequently, the foundation was laid, and it wasn't until mid-March that the villagers realized this was not a road but a funeral home! Furthermore, the selected site is only 700 meters from the village and just 600 meters from the local primary school.
Imagine if a crematorium were to be built just a few hundred meters from your home, and your child had to see black smoke every day on the way to school—who could endure that? The villagers felt deceived and believed their environment and feng shui were ruined. Thus, starting from March 17, hundreds of people protested for three consecutive days, eventually moving their demonstration to the entrance of the city government.
In response to the citizens' demands, how did the authorities react? They deployed a large number of riot police, blocked roads, and even conducted nighttime arrests at people's homes. Ironically, the police on-site used loudspeakers to announce that 'our high-definition cameras will record all of you, and your actions will face legal consequences.'
Initially, it was the government that deceived the people, yet they turned the tables and accused the citizens. Where is the law in this?
Currently, this incident has been completely scrubbed from discussions within the country, leaving everyone to discuss it only on foreign platforms. It’s not surprising that in domestic civil service exams, the standard answer is always that 'the leadership of the Party' is the greatest advantage of the system. Given this educational background, can we expect those who emerge from it to genuinely serve the people?
