Trump Signs Executive Order: TikTok Deal Meets Legal Requirements

U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order at the White House on Thursday (September 25), saying that his plan to sell TikTok’s U.S. business to American investors meets a requirement of a law passed in 2024. The law stipulates that unless TikTok’s Chinese parent company ByteDance sells the short-video app, it will be banned in the United States.

A U.S. House committee revealed Wednesday (Sept. 24) that seven American universities have suspended joint programs related to Chinese government scholarships. The committee also praised the move, saying: “By strengthening protections for campuses against malign foreign influence, these U.S. institutions have demonstrated true leadership and a commitment to safeguarding American research and innovation.”
