U.S. Expert: CCP’s Transnational Repression Level — First Seen Since the Cold War

[People News] Recently, CCP hackers impersonated The Dajiyuan (The Dajiyuan) and sent a bomb-threat email to the White House. U.S. human rights and religious authority expert, director of the Center for Religious Freedom at the Hudson Institute in Washington, Nina Shea, told The Dajiyuan about this incident that the viciousness of the CCP’s transnational repression is the first seen since the Cold War. The U.S. government must formulate a new strategy and establish a special task force to respond specifically.

According to interview reporting by The Dajiyuan reporter Li Chen, Shea said that the CCP’s transnational repression actions in the United States are an injury to American liberty.

She said, “This is in fact suppression of our American freedom.” Shea was also a former U.S. human rights representative to the United Nations and a member of the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO; she has been appointed seven times by the U.S. Congress as a commissioner of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF).

On September 6, 2025, The Dajiyuan overseas submission mailbox received a threatening email titled: “Look at the screenshots, you are finished,” signed “Shao Weisheng,” address marked as the Mainland Chinese city “Xi’an,” IP address “104.155.31.164” (possibly a proxy IP, not the hacker’s own IP).

The email also provocatively wrote: “What can you do to me.”

The email’s attachments included three screenshots, one screenshot showing the perpetrator sending the threatening letter to the White House (White House) Contact Us page, the other two screenshots showing the threat message had been sent successfully and a receipt had been received from the U.S. President and Vice President.

The first screenshot shows the perpetrator impersonating The Dajiyuan’ tip-off phone (201-614-3989) and Mainland submission mailbox ([email protected]), sending threatening text to the White House. The threatening text was written in English; the Chinese translation content is as follows:

“We are Falun Gong members, we will soon shoot at the White House, we will throw Molotov cocktails and explosives. If anyone stops us, we will open fire. We will also simultaneously livestream this heroic act on YouTube, X, Ganjing World, The Dajiyuan, NTD Television and Sound of Hope! This is the consequence of your failure to help resolve the Communist Party’s transnational repression!”

Regarding the above threatening email, Shea said that in her view the CCP’s transnational repression actions have been escalating.

She said, “The CCP’s actions within the United States have become increasingly aggressive, monitoring, surveilling and influencing the implementation of U.S. policy; we must all remain vigilant about this. We can no longer be naive.”

“(The CCP) actions of this scale (of transnational repression) we have not seen since the Cold War.” “This (transnational repression) has already risen to a whole new height.”

Previously, the well-known legal scholar and former Peking University Law Department professor Yuan Hongbing told The Dajiyuan that CCP party leader Xi Jinping ordered an upgrade of transnational persecution of Falun Gong, implemented mainly through ‘public opinion warfare’ and ‘legal warfare.’

About the CCP hackers impersonating The Dajiyuan identity to send a bomb threat email to the White House incident, Shea further said, “We must seriously scrutinize sources of information. The hacker problem has gotten out of control. U.S. authorities, the Trump administration must pay more attention, because we see the CCP becoming increasingly bold, increasingly arrogant in carrying out transnational repression and exerting influence on the United States.”

Shea said this kind of transnational repression against The Dajiyuan is an attack on press freedom and freedom of speech.

“This is an insult to press freedom and freedom of speech; it is a deception operation. They (the CCP) consider Falun Gong, The Dajiyuan and the Shen Yun Performing Arts to be major counterstrikes against the CCP.”

“This (transnational repression) has already risen to a whole new height. If we do not believe the (Chinese/CCP) government (threat), this will really damage Americans’ freedom. Therefore, we need to formulate a new strategy.”

“I think the U.S. executive branch must establish a special task force — an interagency task force, composed jointly of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Central Intelligence Agency, the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice — to coordinate responses to this kind of intrusion and suppression of freedom.” △
