[People News] Another explosion has occurred! On the evening of April 5, near Liujiaguang Village in Niuquan Town, Laiwu District, Jinan City, Shandong Province, a peaceful Sunday evening was shattered by a terrifying loud noise. A factory experienced a massive explosion, with a huge fireball rising into the air, flames shooting skyward, and thick smoke billowing. Although officials claim that there were no casualties, this assertion is met with scepticism by many.

According to a report by Jimu News, a local resident recounted the moment of the explosion with lingering fear. Around 8:40 PM that evening, he heard the explosion while near Niuquan Town and immediately saw flames shooting into the sky in the distance. When he rushed to the scene, he found that the road about 1 kilometre from the centre of the incident had been blocked. He heard someone mention that the glass in their windows and doors had shattered due to the shockwave from the explosion. Reports indicate that the explosion occurred at a chemical factory in Niuquan Town, causing the windows and doors of nearby residents to shatter, with tremors felt several kilometres away.

A popular Weibo user, "Yanguang Hen Liang," described the suffocating sense of fear: the factory explosion caused the windows and doors of residents' homes to shatter. After hearing a loud bang, the glass from the windows shattered all over the ground. "We had no idea what had happened, and we didn't know if we were safe; this sense of fear was even more distressing than the explosion itself."

A second explosion occurred.

Videos shared by netizens reveal that a second explosion occurred at the scene, followed by a massive fireball shooting into the sky. The explosion was powerful enough that videographers instinctively crouched down to shield themselves from the shockwave, resulting in shaky footage.

The footage shows that several ambulances and police vehicles arrived at the site, yet officials continue to assert that there are no casualties. This claim has been met with widespread scepticism.

Netizens have voiced their disbelief, stating, "The power of the explosion is considerable; how could there be no casualties? No one believes that," Regardless of how many people may have died, they still insist there are no casualties, and some news outlets simply choose not to report it...", "Iran wasn't bombed this severely... Hahaha, easily outdoing the U.S. military," Without Iran's cheap oil, did they have to resort to blowing up the factory?", and "When has there ever been casualties? It's laughable."

A user named "Bright Eyes" also raised questions in a post: The explosion shattered windows, but what about the walls? Was the structural integrity compromised? If such incidents occur again, is there an early warning system in place? What are the evacuation routes? The area around the Simah River in Niuquan Town has experienced previous incidents, including tanker and factory fires. These reports have heightened local residents' concerns about industrial safety in the region. "People living in that area want to know not only if their homes are safe, but also whether there is oversight on the safe operations of businesses, and who will be held accountable if an accident occurs. The fact that a factory can explode indicates that there are vulnerabilities in the production process."

Netizens have been expressing their disbelief: The shockwave was strong enough to shatter glass a kilometre away, yet the factory reported 'no casualties'? Are there only automated robots inside? Each statement in this report seems to insult our intelligence.

Many netizens have also sarcastically remarked: As long as no one is hospitalised, it doesn't count as casualties; and if the trending topic is quickly suppressed, it’s as if nothing ever happened. We are already weary of this familiar narrative.

In recent years, China has seen a series of chemical plant explosions. Last year, a significant explosion occurred at 'Youdao Chemical Co., Ltd.' in Shandong, resulting in 24 casualties. However, there has been no further information on the exact number of deaths or injuries. △
